Re: Shit you need to know
You gotta swim
Don’t let yourself sink
You’ll find the horizon
I promise you it’s not as far as you think
Just keep your head above.
I had planned on doing something more exciting with the handful of paint samples I picked up at the store, but with an excess of down time and a couple sharpies at hand, it wasn’t long before these babies started filling up.
I’ve seen about a million zillion of these things and reblogged probably half as many, but I just love this song. It’s so incredibly uplifting and moving and inspiring and everything a song could be.
You might ask yourself what a redhead with an Irish name and a background of some significant binge drinking is doing on St Patrick’s Day. The answer is pretty obvious. Baking green things and drawing pictures of monsters and ice cream for tiny kids to become familiar with sight-words. That’s my Saturday night. Voluntarily.
Flip through, let me know what you think of them!
So, questions:
- Would you enjoy a custom article of sharpie-doodled fabric such as a tote or t-shirt or such?
- If you would not enjoy something like this, do you think other people would? Like people on Etsy?
- How much would you be willing to spend on a hand-drawn custom piece like this?
- What would you want on it? Your favorite band? Your favorite book? Harry Potter? Doctor Who? Your Favorite City? Any other things with lots of icons and lots of fans you suggest I should come up with a design for?
- Instead of sitting on my ass this spring break, I’m turning myself into an entrepreneur, kind of. I want to make things and sell them.
- My real question is: Do you actually want a sharpie tote or t-shirt??
Adventures in a Cool Haircut
- So I was thinking of shaving the side of my head
- ala lots of lesbians and hipsters recently
- And I’ve been playing with the idea for like a month
- because it is daring
- but easy to hide
- initially
- and I think it wouldn’t look too bad
- but I was really worried about what it might look like when the shaved part started growing out
- and despite like two hours of googling
- I couldn’t come up with any ideas of what the fuck you were supposed to do with that side of your head
- other than keep shaving it
- so I decided to make my own completely accurate photographic demonstrative model.
The side of my head shaved:

So, you think I should do it?
Favorite Creative Projects of 2011:
- 1) Chalk-tagging Millennium Park at the Tumblr meet-up
- 2) Making this sweet ass, Chicago-themed, Sharpie-drawn canvas bag… and two more Sharpie-drawn canvas bags that were well-received as Christmas gifts
- 3 & 4) Sharpie & Crayola marker song title illustrations
- 5) Random practice in geometric patterns
So I made a whole playlist of positive songs that I was going to share with you all and even made this fancy cover for it. BUT. Then I scanned it crooked. And also the internet connection I’m using does not allow uploading to any easy upload/download sites I can think of. Womp.
salvia-plath replied to your photo: Yes, but not off of that formica table.
did you draw this? it’s fantastic
Why, yes! I did draw this! Thank you!! I’ve started this new project of making drawings based on song titles (not lyrics just titles) with just Sharpies and Crayola markers. It’s fun. Lets me be creative without being frustrated at not being perfect at them. There are others posted under the “doodle” tag on my page, and still more queued for the next week or so.
If anyone has any requests, by all means feel free to drop them in my ask box =)
Yes, but not off of that formica table.
